Grand Chefs of Long Island - Yum

Several Port Washington Restaurants are currently hosting events coordinated by Beverly Halm through the Continuing Education Program of Port Washington Public Schools. There are still classes coming up in November and December on site, and some already took place at Schreiber High School. Chefs demonstrate their techniques, share their recipes, and the best part - each session concludes with food sampling.

Many different cuisines and specialties from restaurants in the area are represented. Examples include Mediterranean, Italian, Turkish, Indian, Japanese, vegetarian, seafood, pastries, and more. I have to admit that I am curious about Finn MacCool’s (an Irish dining room known for its black Angus steak). The restaurant is named after a giant, semimythical character from ancient Gaelic Legends. I've never been there, though we pass it all the time and always remark that we should go. The event at Finn MacCool's is on December 11. Another participating restaurant is India Garden Bar and Grill, which we have been to and like a lot. The event here is on December 2.

The school offers gift certificates for all of their continuing education classes, a great idea for a thoughtful and unusual gift. All events are held from 7:30 - 9:30 and are $25 per person. Check the school website for more details about the schedule. Registration is required and class size is limited.
