Stop in for a Drink at Lennon's

Lennon's Pub, 105 Main Street

One of the first places my husband and I visited as new residents of Port Washington was Lennon's Pub. I think we were drawn to it
because it seemed like the kind of comfortable, friendly place we like to frequent. And we weren't disappointed. The owner, Barbara Lennon, still retains her Irish lilt, and she welcomes each visitor personally. When I spoke to her about this article, she was adamant that it not be about her; she wants me to talk about the pub. But it's important to know that she has been in Port for 32 years. Having come from the Bronx and Astoria formerly (before Ireland, of course), she loves the close-knit community atmosphere, the schools, the water, the wide variety of restaurants, and the shopping. She will probably retire here - if that ever happens.

The pub is a casual, often lively spot. It's not unusual to hear the occasional Irish
accent from one of the patrons, and you will often be drawn into conversation with the bartender. It's a little quiet right now, but it will get busier as the holidays approach. The busiest night of the year is Thanksgiving Eve, and of course, St. Patrick's Day brings in the crowds. Stop by for one of their pool tournaments on Monday evenings, or join in for quiz night on Tuesdays at 8:30.

The pub's involvement in the community was evident recently by the Halloween “pinups” all over the bar, which were purchased for $1 in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Stop in Lennon's to contribute or visit the hospital website if you'd like to help.

Hope to see you at Lennon's!
