On September 23rd, 2009, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce gave a special award to Eli Schefer and Andrea Watson at the Installation Dinner. They were recognized for their many years of community service, specifically for their involvement in the Harborfest Model Boat Regatta for third graders.
The Model Boat Regatta is a popular event and a tradition of Harborfest that the third graders look forward to eagerly. The preparation and planning that goes into the event includes designing the boats, creating and ordering parts, putting the kits together, and organizing and training volunteers. Andrea worked on publicity for the event and obtained sponsors, and Eli created a DVD of the entire boat-building process, which is still used to teach the volunteers.
Although Eli and Andrea have moved on to other things, they remain available for advice and support. For their dedication to teaching the children of Port Washington the joys of sailing, they were presented with the 2009 Community Service Award. Congratulations and thank you to Eli and Andrea.
