Shop and Stroll Main Street During Spring Fling!

Shop and stroll Main St. from the boulevard to the bay. Celebrate spring and enjoy magical "shoppertainment" and dining specials, Saturday, April 30 and Thursdays, May 5 and June 2 from 5pm to 8pm.

From the Re-Imagining Main Street Committee:

Did you miss Port Night Out on December 1st and 15th because it was too cold? Wish you had the chance to ride the trolley, experience late-night shopping in Port with live music, dining specials, and "shoppertainment?" Or, if you were there, you probably couldn't wait until December to celebrate Main Street again. Either way, you won’t want to miss Spring Fling!

"Yes! The trolley will roll down Main again," stated Jon Kaiman, Supervisor of the Town of North Hempstead. The Re-imagining Main Street committee is bringing a new series of Spring Fling shop and stroll evenings to Port Washington with music in the streets, dining specials, and a chance to shop "Port Washington style," with the added benefit of spring’s warmer weather and later sunsets.

The Spring Fling event schedule boasts three shop and stroll evenings. The first will be Saturday, April 30 from 5pm to 8pm, and it will be a perfect way to celebrate the hard work of hundreds of volunteers cleaning up Main Street that morning with the Town of North Hempstead and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington. The second evening will be Thursday, May 5th from 5pm to 8pm, celebrating Cinco de Mayo and providing an entertaining way to get your last-minute Mother’s Day shopping complete! The final shop and stroll Spring Fling evening is scheduled for Thursday, June 2 from 5pm to 8pm, coinciding with the Chamber of Commerce’s HarborFest on June 5 and the inaugural Gold Coast International Film Festival hosted by the Town’s Business Tourism and Development Corporation taking place June 1-5. Bobbie Polay, Executive Director of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, said "The Spring Fling shopping events add to Port’s small-town ambiance. Come and experience what makes our friendly local merchants and restaurants so wonderfully unique."

"Our goal for these popular shop and stroll evenings is to create more vibrancy and excitement on Main Street," stated Mindy Germain, Executive Director of Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington. "This vibrancy coupled with plans for a revitalized streetscape will enhance real estate values, boost our local economy and restore Port's mom and pop charm and sense of community."

The Re-Imagining Main Street Committee could not get these exciting events off the ground without the hard work and support of Port Washington's merchants and hub leaders.

"Plans for upper Main Street include a scavenger hunt, DJ, music in the streets, Thai dancing, discounted Mother’s Day gifts, free smoothies, spring home design workshops, treats, art and fashion." [Dvora Troshane, Owner of Peace Love Art Studio and Gail Grossman, Owner of Om Sweet Om Yoga Studio, Co-Hub Leaders of Upper Main Street Main Hub.]

"Mid Main Street is teaming up together to offer unique shopping and a band that will play outside to raise money for the Japan Earthquake Relief." [Alan Fishkind, Owner of Joan Smith Flowers and Hub Leader for Middle Main Street Cultural Center.]

"Lower Main Street will feel like one big party complete with vino, fromaggio, porch face painting, dining specials, book readings and great spring and Mother’s Day shopping deals." [Susan Micellotta, Owner of White + 1 and Co-Hub Leader for lower Main Street Arts and Antiques District.] The Re-Imagining Main Street Committee is comprised of The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District, The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead. The committee extends a special thank you to The Town of North Hempstead and The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District for sponsoring a trolley for all three Spring Fling events.

Roy Smitheimer, Executive Director of the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District stated, "The trolley provides the connectivity that enables residents to park their cars and leave them behind. It is more fun to Go By Trolley. We are proud to be one of the major sponsors of these fantastic shopping opportunities as visitors and residents alike re-discover the value of shopping local."
